Hana Metwally’s movement practice began in 2020 as a way to move through her own questions about the body and identity. Pole dancing gave her a language to examine and challenge the beliefs, both social and personal, that shape who we think we are. Drawn to the margins of society, she began working as a dancer in Melbourne clubs.
In 2025, Hana moved to Japan, where she now collaborates with Ako Suzuki on performances in Tokyo. Woven with themes of taboo, sexuality, duality, intimacy and transformation, their work creates a shared space to feel and witness pain, shame and grief, and transmute them into freedom and love.
